Star Trek Acapella Medley! From The Warp Zone

Welcome to The Warp Zone! Known for their parodies and acapella magic ranging from Jurrasic Park to Star Wars to Darkwing Duck and beyond … here they present the theme songs from Star Trek: The Original Series, The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, Voyager, and Enterprise… sorry Discovery maybe next time.

From their facebook page, the self-described The Warp Zone “is nerdy sketch comedy, gaming, and music videos brought to you by five loveable dudes” Davis, Schroeder, Ryan, Fish, and Odom… check them out here on youtube! They are well worth your time.

Just getting back into the posting habit after the birth of our “boo-tiful baby” granddaughter. Celebrating her third month of life just in time for Halloween expect to see lots of Star Trek themed baby wear if Grandma has anything to say about it!

And just because we also have a fondness for The X-Files… here is The Warp Zone acapella version of The X-Files theme song to round out your visit to our blog. Granted they are dressed more like the dudes from The Men in Black but I suppose we can forgive them that small error since they nail the song itself. Take care everyone! Enjoy.

Star Trek TNG Make it So / Let it Go Disney Parody

Back after a short hiatus for the birth of our granddaughter (and Jacob’s niece!) In honor of our new little girl here is a (really … really really) well-done parody of Disney’s Frozen: Let it Go…

From Debs & Errol on Youtube comes this Let it Go parody which, as you probably know, is an exceptionally hard to sing song. Well, Debs nails it. And the lyrics… perfection! Following the plot of The Next Generation movie First Contact.

“You’re all Astronauts on some kind of Star Trek”… arguably the best line ever.

First Contact was the first Trek film that did not include the cast of the Original Series and featured the cast of Next Gen instead. Time Travel. Borg. What more could you ask for?

In case you somehow missed the movie (and if you did please correct that asap…) here is the trailer…

Top Ten Alien Races of the Delta Quadrant

Of all the races we meet on Voyager’s travel through the Delta Quadrant there are some who stand out because individuals we meet stand out.

1) Borg

The Borg Queen.

2) Brunali

The Brunali are an obvious choice because… Icheb! Need we say more?

3) Species 8472

The ultimate “don’t judge a book by its cover” race and we love them for it! Although originally Captain Janeway makes a deal with the devil so to speak, the Borg, to help them win a war with Species 8472, in the end, they come to know and love Species 8472 who were simply defending themselves against a hostile invasion force. The most memorable for me (of the named members of the species) was Valerie Archer who took human form on their model earth and engaged in a relationship with Chakotay.

4) Vidiians

Victims of a horrendous plague they call “the phage” the Vidiians will stop at nothing to ensure the survival of their species, including harvesting organs of living, sentient beings to replace their own organs which are being destroyed by the phage. Their medical knowledge is superior to Starfleet, for the simple reason that their very existence depends upon that knowledge and they will go to any means to survive.  Danara Pel is one of many but a favorite for her love affair with The Doctor and later for helping to save Captain Janeway and Chakotay from isolation on a planet due to a virus.

5) Talaxian

Neelix. That is all.

6) Ocampa

Kes. See Nelix.

7) Kazon

Kar of the Kazon-Ogla who earns his name Jal Karden by working with Chakotay on a Kazon training moon.

8) Hirogen

Donik was a Hirogen holoprogram engineer who altered the holograms provided by Voyager to allow them to feel pain and thus become more formidable prey. He eventually works to reprogram the holograms and undo some of the damage caused by his original changes.

9) Kobali

Jhet’leya who became Kobali after Ensign  Lyndsay Ballard died and her body was commanded to space in Starfleet custom. The Kobali procreate by salvaging organic beings after death.

10) Voth

Forra Gegen was a Voth molecular paleontologist who believed in the Distant Origin theory and was persecuted for that belief. The Voth shared many genetic markers with species from the Terran solar system and likely traveled from earth many years before settling in the Delta quadrant.

Gates McFadden: Otherwise known as Mrs. Spiner!

So a funny thing happened on the way to the convention…

This is one of my favorite convention stories… imagine Gates McFadden (Dr. Beverley Crusher on TNG) and Brent Spiner (Data on TNG) on stage talking about an airline flight on the way to a convention and a fan recognized Brent and asked for his autograph…

Fan: (to Brent Spiner) Oh my gosh! I love your show! Please, can I have your autograph?

Brent: Sure. Here you go. But don’t you want her’s too? *motions to Gates*

Fan: Oh my yes, I’m so sorry. I would love your autograph, Mrs. Spiner!

Gates: *signs the napkin as “Mrs. Spiner”*

So somewhere out there is an airplane napkin signed by Brent Spiner and Mrs. Spiner! I would frame that puppy and take it to a convention and ask Gates to resign for real… because seriously? Best. Story. Ever.

I wonder if the fan ever figured out the truth?

This is a quick clip from that convention… not mine… it was posted by YouTuber generousrabbit… wish I had more! I’ll keep scouring youtube because these guys are hilarious together. If you get the chance to see any of the TNG crew appear together do not miss it! They are so charismatic and truly engage the audience. At one point Gates literally walked through the audience and climbed OVER the chairs… then, of course, Jonathan doing his Riker Maneuver… pretty sure I saw a video of that. I’ll have to find it for you and post it. Stay tuned!

“Johnny come back here and do that chair thing!”

Gates McFadden… the woman who changed her name because she was embarrassed to be doing Star Trek.

She changed her birthday too! How can you not love her? Of course, that particular tidbit is courtesy of Jonathan Frakes… fact or fiction… you make the call!

Truly though, she is always so gracious and kind to fans, like that picture of her with Jacob (yes, we purchased the “official” photo as well… and she signed that for us… although she did spell my name wrong… Cris… who spells it Cris?!) I’ll have to find that one and post it for you. I should probably print out this pic of her with Jacob and ask her if she would autograph it… that would be something special for him to keep!

Funny story about Jacob… we watched Voyager and he hadn’t really paid much attention to The Next Generation (sorry TNG folks) but after meeting everyone he decided he had to watch. I wonder how often that happens? Reverse fandom? Fan of the person then fan of the show… probably often… is that you? Comment below and let us know!

Whoopi Goldberg: “Dude I want in! I wanna do Star Trek!”

Star Trek blasted through a lot of barriers when it hit the air in the 60s… not the least of which was including a black female in a strong leading role, Nichelle Nichols (Lieutenant Uhura in TOS). Gene Roddenberry didn’t do this out of any sense of political correctness or to prove a point, he simply did it because it was the right thing to do. He just assumed that of course there would be strong women of color in the future, why wouldn’t there be? (And we loved him for it!)

Whoopi to Levar Burton… “Dude I want in! I wanna do Star Trek!

Always a feminist, Whoopi was inspired seeing Nichelle Nichols on TV as Lt. Uhura in The Original Series. In the documentary “Trekkies” Nichelle Nichols recounts a story about Whoopi who upon seeing Nichelle on TV exclaimed…

Momma! There’s a black lady on television and she ain’t no maid!

Over the years the two became great friends and reunited at the 50th-anniversary convention in Las Vegas. Nichelle Nichols tweeted out this pic wishing then President Obama a Happy Birthday… Do you do Twitter? You can follow Nichelle >here!< Seriously though… do you do Twitter? Comment and let me know! Guess I need to jump into that bird’s nest and learn how. tweet tweet

Nichelle Nichols and Whoopi Goldberg

Nichelle Nichols appeared as Lieutenant Uhura in all of The Original Series episodes as well as the follow-up movies. In addition, she has appeared in multiple specials and voiced her character in The Animated Series.

Fun Fact! The name Uhura comes from the Swahili word uhuru, meaning freedom.

Whoopi Goldberg appeared as Guinan in 29 Next Generation episodes plus the movies Generations and Nemesis.

I wish I could take credit for this video… from my favorite convention provider Creation Entertainment… who loves surprising fans (and their guests!) like this… thanks to DTrek55 on youtube for this one!

Star Trek: Enterprise – Faith of the Heart

Yes, yes, I know. We don’t like Enterprise. Or we’re not supposed to like Enterprise. (Disclaimer: I actually do like Enterprise.) I wanted to share Faith of the Heart from the opening credits for the first two seasons because they are so well done. Keep scrolling down for an extended mix of the theme song…a cover of the Rod Stewart single sung by Russell Watson.

By the way… the featured pic above is Connor Trinneer (far left) and Scott Bakula (far right) in costume alongside three members of the crew of the aircraft carrier USS Enterprise (CVN-65) U.S. Navy photo by Chief Journalist Mark O. Piggott.

Faith of the Heart… Enterprise Opening Credits…

But what we all CAN agree on is that the theme song for this installment of the series was mind-blowingly, grab a tissue, pretend you have allergies, deeply moving. Yes, I teared up watching this. No, you don’t have to do the same. I know I’m freakish like that. I remember watching when the space shuttle Challenger exploded and I will never forget. Christa McAuliffe was and is an inspiration to all us ‘regular girls’ that dreams do come true and they are worth the risk.

Crew of the space shuttle Challenger
STS-51-L crew: (front row) Michael J. Smith, Dick Scobee, Ronald McNair; (back row) Ellison Onizuka, Christa McAuliffe, Gregory Jarvis, Judith Resnik.

To me, this encompasses all we love about Star Trek. It’s not just a cool geeky sci-fi series for technonerds, although it is all that. It is also about dreams and visions and hopes about what we can accomplish when we try, when we explore, and when we boldly go where no one has gone before…

Faith of the Heart by Rod Stewart

It’s been a long road
Getting from there to here
It’s been a long time
But my time is finally near

And I can feel the change in the wind right now
Nothing’s in my way
And they’re not gonna hold me down no more
No they’re not gonna hold me down

Cause I’ve got faith of the heart
I’m going where my heart will take me
I’ve got faith to believe
I can do anything
I’ve got strength of the soul
No one’s going to bend nor break me
I can reach any star
I’ve got faith
Faith of the heart

It’s been a long night
Trying to find my way
Been through the darkness
Now I finally have my day

And I will see my dream come alive at last
I will touch the sky
And they’re not gonna hold me down no more
No they’re not gonna change my mind

Cause I’ve got faith of the heart
I’m going where my heart will take me
I’ve got faith to believe
I can do anything
I’ve got strength of the soul
No one’s going to bend nor break me
I can reach any star
I’ve got faith
Faith of the heart

I know the wind’s so cold
I’ve seen the darkest days
But now the winds I feel
Are only winds of change

I’ve been through the fire
And I’ve been through the rain
But I’ll be fine

Cause I’ve got faith of the heart
I’m going where my heart will take me
I’ve got faith to believe
I can do anything
I’ve got strength of the soul
No one’s going to bend nor break me
I can reach any star
I’ve got faith
Faith of the heart

Marina Sirtis: “Kid. You should go into Politics!”

I must admit when we first started going to conventions Marina Sirtis (Deanna Troy on The Next Generation) was not top of our list to meet. I know. That’s awful. (I’m so sorry Marina please don’t hate us). But once we listened to her on stage and even better met her in person we were hooked.

Beauty is one thing but this gal has a razor sharp wit to go with it and she is genuinely nice on top of all that! So basically you could easily hate her… but instead you LOVE her because she is just so… real person. (Does that make sense?)

Marina Sirtis TNG

So imagine… we are standing in line for days… mom and 10-year-old son… and there are so many people and she must be so tired of making small talk and signing photos and on and on. You’d think it would be a quick name-sign-thank-you-bye… but it wasn’t! She was graceful and thoughtful and she engaged with Jacob (said 10-year-old boy) and talked to him for a bit.

Marina: Well hi there nice to meet you! And who is your favorite character on the show?
Jacob: …
Marina: Oh I know it must be Worf, right?
Jacob: No.
Marina: Okay don’t tell me… it must be… Geordi?
Jacob: No.
Marina: DATA!
Jacob: No.
Marina: Okay I give up. Who is it?
Jacob: I like everyone the same.
Marina: Kid. You should go into politics!

I’m sure she doesn’t remember that in the thousands of fan meet and greets she does but I certainly will never forget and neither will Jacob. Unfortunately, we didn’t get a photo with her that year but that (and an Imzadi photo) is top of our list for the next convention where the stars align, and she is there, and we are there…

Marina Sirtis Publicity Stills

So, after all that, does it surprise you that when we got upstairs we didn’t even make it to the room before he collapsed? We were staying on the concierge level (and boy is THAT fun!) you know the one where you get free snacks all day…

…and they have these huge bean bag chairs in the hallway which is basically like putting up a sign “all 10-year-old boys sit here!” I mean seriously they must have boy magnets inside those things. Right?

All I want for Christmas: Tea, Earl Gray, Hot.

Continuing our Christmas in July theme after a short Friday the 13th break (check it here) with a Star Trek mashup from several shows.

And including Enterprise!!

That red-headed-step-child of the franchise that everyone loves to hate… the Enterprise’s inclusion alone made me want to share this one.

All I want for Christmas is Tea, Earl Gray, Hot!

Are you tired of Christmas in July? Let me know… I’m kind of a sucker for all things holiday so maybe I’m going overboard. Yell at me in the comments… well… maybe don’t yell… I might cry or at least scream out KHHHAAANNN…

All of these fan-made videos are inspiring me to try… guess I see some research in my future since I have no clue how to do more than take a static screenshot. Have a favorite video editing program? Let me know in the comments! Thanks.

And keeping with tradition (holidays are about traditions right?) here are the lyrics to the original by Mariah Carey…

I don’t want a lot for Christmas
There is just one thing I need
And I don’t care about the presents
Underneath the Christmas tree

I don’t need to hang my stocking
There, upon the fireplace
Santa Claus won’t make me happy
With a toy on Christmas Day
I just want you for my own
More than you could ever know
Make my wish come true
All I want for Christmas is you

You, baby
Oh, I won’t ask for much this Christmas
I won’t even wish for snow
And I’m just gonna keep on waiting
Underneath the mistletoe
I won’t make a list and send it
To the North Pole for Saint Nick
I won’t even stay awake to
Hear those magic reindeer click

‘Cause I just want you here tonight
Holding on to me so tight
What more can I do?
Cause baby all I want for Christmas is you

Happy Friday the 13th! Jason vs. Star Trek

It’s FRIDAY THE 13th!

So a few things. First, did you know our very own Nana Visitor (Kira on Deep Space Nine) played Jason’s mother in the 2009 remake?! I didn’t. Until now. And my nightmares will never be the same again.

Alert alert! This video has spoilers… well… are they still spoilers after 38 years? Anyway. Same rule applies here as to our other posts. We will assume you are okay with spoilers when we post about episodes of Trek and also when we post about 38-year-old plot reveals. Ok? I’m assuming you said yes since you’re still reading.

Any other movie reveals I can ruin for you? Let’s see… who is Darth Vader… No? Ok I’ll leave that one alone.

Friday the 13th (2009) – Kill for Mother scene

I haven’t met Nana Visitor yet… more life goals! I’m dying to have my picture taken with her. (See what I did there? Dying to… oh never mind.) I guess I better start planning future convention attendance. And I may have to buy a few extra autograph tix since I’ll want her to sign a Freddy pic AND a Deep Space Nine pic… and maybe the pic we take with her if we can swing it. Depends on the stars schedules, sometimes you can do it, other times you have to wait for future conventions.

Oh myyy… I know… wrong actor… (sorry Uncle George!)

I got distracted again and almost forgot to post the video I intended to post! Silly me. Here you go…

JASON vs. STAR TREK!! Who will win? I know where my money is going.

And because she is beautiful, and we all adore her, here is Nana Visitor at a convention in 2009. Photo Cred: Salvatore Capalbi.

So hopefully I’ll be able to share a picture of us with Nana in a future post. A girl and her son can dream right?

For now… enjoy your Friday the 13th… any plans? Spooky movie marathons? Scary treats? Share with us in the comments! We’d love to hear from you.

More Christmas in July ~ Deep Space Nine Style!

We are continuing our Christmas in July theme with the DS9 gang… Captain Sisko, Major Kira, Constable Odo, Lieutenant Commander Worf, Chief O’Brien, Congenial Barkeep Quark, Plain Simple Garak, and the rest of the Star Trek: DS9 ensemble with special appearances by Morn, Martok, Moogie, and Vorta Iggy Pop, who are “simply having a Wonderful Deep Space Nine”! (You know you sang that last bit! Admit it.)

Wonderful Deep Space Nine

Thanks to the talented YouTuber John C. Worsley for this well-done bit of holiday cheer!

Merry Christmas in July!

Jacob and I with Michael Dorn… aka: WORF!

Michael Dorn aka: WORF

This was taken at another fantastic Creation Star Trek convention in San Francisco… the stars are all so welcoming and Michael Dorn was so kind to us! Just a really friendly, genuine person… you don’t find that attitude in stars often.

We haven’t started an autographed photo of the cast of DS9 yet… GOALS… but someday. We do have signed pics of the TNG cast and Voyager cast over on the Episode list page (here). We don’t have quite all the signatures yet but we’re working on it!

Have you met Michael? Share your experience in the comments below… we’d love to hear about it!

Just to keep things honest here are the Lyrics to the Original:

Wonderful Christmas Time

The moon is right
The spirits up
We’re here tonight
And that’s enough
Simply having a wonderful Christmastime
Simply having a wonderful Christmastime

The party’s on
The feelings here
That only comes
This time of year
Simply having a wonderful Christmastime
Simply having a wonderful Christmastime

The choir of children sing their song
Ding dong, ding dong
Ding dong, ding ooo
Ooo ooo toot toot toot toot toot toot
We’re simply having a wonderful Christmastime
Simply having a wonderful Christmastime

The word is out
About the town
To lift a glass
Ah don’t look down
Simply having a wonderful Christmastime

The choir of children sing their song
They practiced all year long
Ding dong, ding dong
Ding dong, ding dong
Ding dong, ding dong, dong, dong, dong, dong
The party’s on
The spirits up
We’re here tonight
And that’s enough
Simply having a wonderful Christmastime

We’re simply having a wonderful Christmastime
The moon is right
The spirits up
We’re here tonight
Oh and that’s enough
We’re simply having a wonderful Christmastime
Simply having a wonderful Christmastime
Simply having a wonderful Christmastime

Oh oh
Christmastime
